Every gate's shadow, seen through four lenses: the thought you rehearse, what you absorb from others, what your field transmits, and the collective pattern moving through you. Most of these patterns run on autopilot until they're actually named — the moment you can see which lens you're operating from, the reaction stops being automatic and becomes a choice. That's the practical work of self-alignment: not getting rid of the shadow, but knowing it well enough to work with it instead of being quietly run by it.
Every gate below is read through four different angles on the same shadow pattern. Two of them apply to everyone, no matter what's in your chart. The other two depend on whether that specific gate is defined (fixed and consistent in you) or open (undefined, and taking in what's around you) — the actual mechanic Human Design uses to describe transmitting energy versus absorbing it.
The thought or story your mind builds around the gate's shadow — the belief you privately rehearse before you act on it.
The collective, ancestral, or generational version of this pattern — something moving through you rather than caused by you.
What you take in and amplify from other people at this gate. Open gates don't have a fixed, personal way of running this theme — they pick it up from the environment.
What your own field consistently transmits to people around you at this gate. Defined gates broadcast a fixed frequency, whether or not you're aware of it.
